Welcome to the home of the Hidalgo County Public Cemetery Project. The Project is a service learning partnership between Hidalgo County, TX and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).

Students registered in Public Archaeology (ANTH 4385/6385) at UTRGV will engage in research of the site under the supervision of their professor, Dr. Sarah M. Rowe. The purpose of the course is to provide students with an introduction to the practice and debates of public archaeology, while also giving them the opportunity to participate in a local field project that directly engages with these themes.

This website serves as a public-facing platform for students to think through the themes discussed in the course and to share the results of their research throughout the semester.
